FINANCIAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING

“The Institute’s Financial Education and Training (FE&T) department has always played a vital role in promoting financial education for minorities of all ages across North Carolina.  The objective is to build the financial intelligence to business owners and consumers that will increase credit scores, lower debt, and enhance the overall probability of increasing the net worth among low –to moderate income populations and business owners.

Mission

The North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development (the Institute) has a working philosophy that information and entrepreneurship are critical to wealth creation and to build the asset base among low-wealth sectors of the community. As such, the Education and Training department focuses on building financial intelligence of business owners and consumers that will increase credit scores, lower debt and enhance the probability of higher net worth among low to moderate income populations and business owners.

Higher Education initiative

Learning to manage credit cards and money, implementing budgets and savings are key components to financial independence and building wealth within the minority community. This program has a focus for the North Carolina based Historically Minority Colleges and Universities.  This program has been expanded to reach high school and middle school students.

Consumer Initiative

This program addresses the challenges the minorities face in gaining access to credit due to not fully understanding the full impact of their credit report.  By partnering  with the corporate community, sorority and fraternal organizations, and the faith-based  community we will have a larger impact for disseminating this vital information.  This initiative also provides one on one credit services to consumers.  This service provides a roadmap to improving your personal financial history.

Homeownership  Initiative

The purpose of the NCIMED HomeOwnership Initiative is to increase the knowledge base and competencies of individuals for improving credit, increasing net worth and creation of a spending  plan.  A special emphasis will be placed on African Americans, Hispanic/Latino populations.  This program will assist consumers in getting a home, keeping a home and maintaining a home.
